Under Construction: On Mixing Action With Theory

One Block At A Time…

You know, dear reader, it always weirds me out that this needs to be repeated as often as it does, but: if you don’t actually sit down and write your book it’s never going to get written.

There exists an unhealthy fetishization of “the process” in the writerly world, where being seen engaging in the act of writing takes precedent over, you know, actually fucking writing.

Look, I get it. That sweet sweet external gratification is addictive!

Chase those likes, up the engagement on that post, see if you can get trending!

Only…who cares if you do?

The time you spent chasing online clout or fifteen minutes of fame could have been better spent polishing your manuscript or roughing in another chapter is all I’m saying.

Now, I’m not advocating you quite social media altogether or live like a hermit. I only ask you don’t fall into the trap of forgetting why you started.

Theres a reason I only do quarterly updates. I want to stay as far away from external validation as possible and treat them more as an accountability feature rather than a “gather round and applaud me” moment.

So many of us out there possess self doubt but I beg of you: don’t write to be noticed or validated.

Write to have fun!

Write because you have to, because you’ve got a story that needs to be sent out into the world.

Hell, everyone and anyone can post on social media pretending they’re hot shit.

Ours is the work it takes to actually get things done.

Be humble, work hard, and delete that duck-face selfie in front of your laptop before you shame yourself further.

But what do I know.
